Question: When and where are the required
Hunter Safety Classes offered?
Reply: These are put on by instructors that must be certified
by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and are sponsored by
various groups. WDNR requires these classes to be listed on the web at
WDNR - Upcoming Recreational Safety Education Classes. There are
links to pages about the courses that we sponsor on the
Home Page under Hunter Safety Classes.

Question: Why is rapid fire
restricted?
Reply: The simple answer is safety. A high percentage of the
people shooting on our range are not trained and/or sufficiently
practiced in rapid fire (more than 2 shots per second) shooting to
ensure that the point of aim is on target for each shot. The tendency
is for the muzzle of the fire arm to climb with each shot and far to
often, the third an successive shots will actually pass over the top
of the berm.
Until such time as we establish an in-club means to qualify rapid fire
shooters, It is policy for the range officer to allow rapid fire only
by prior request by those shooters who can show evidence of their
qualification by possession of current IDPA, IPSC, NRA Action Pistol or
NRA Action Pistol Certified Instructor membership/rating ID cards and
also when such activity will not (in the opinion of the range officer)
interfere with the safe and orderly operations of the range.

Question: How far is it to the horizon?
Reply: The distance to the horizon depends on the height above
the surface of the earth of the observers eye. For smooth surfaces
(over water or level plains and deserts), the following approximation
works well Distance to Horizon.

Question: What is the best trigger
pull for target (hunting, varmint, etc.) shooting?
Reply: There is no short or individually correct answer.
Generally, the least pull force and creep that the shooter can control
and that will allow "safe handling with the safety off" will provide
the best results - for more see our Downloads page for the PDF file
