One Hole Group – Special Interest Group

Phone: 920-757-6135

Contact:

Fred Bohl

The purpose of One Hole Group is to discuss, tryout, and compile our collective knowledge of precision shooting. Primarily for our own enjoyment and use but also for the upcoming generations so that they do not have to repeat our expensive mistakes on the road to that ultimate goal of putting 5 shots through the same hole (the "One Hole Group").

The SIG is open to all TCR&GC members who share our interest in precision shooting. All aspects of the One Hole Group goal will be discussed: rifles, handguns, optics and reloading - including the selection and maintenance of the equipment - also methods of use thereof.

We are in the organization mode at present. If you are interested in participating, now is time to get involved (if you don't get in on the ground floor you will have to use the stairs later). Please talk to one of us at the range or use the contact Email above.

The usual suspects to contact (often at range and didn't say no fast enough) are: Al Neveau, Bob Risse, Dan Safranski, Pat Medo, Tom Eby, and Fred Bohl

Dan Newberry's Optimal Charge Weight Load Development (Used with Dan's permission) OCW web page

"What is an Optimal Charge Weight load? — With any given bullet and powder combination, there will be a specific amount of that powder which will cause the bullet to exit the muzzle at the "friendliest" portion of the vibration cycle. This does not necessarily correspond with the tightest velocity figures, however. Many load recipes have over the years become the "go to" recipes for trying out a new rifle. If your rifle fails to shoot one of these "tried and true" recipes well, you may well have a rifle integrity problem. Consider the Federal Gold Medal Match .308 win ammo. How can one recipe shoot so well in so many rifles? That's what we're after in the OCW load--a load recipe so stable and predictable that it does indeed rise above, and to some extent disprove the "all rifles are different" adage of lore..."

Dan Newberry's Optimal Charge Weight Load Development Instructions are available as "Dan Newberry - OCW.pdf"  on our Downloads page.
